Very small English rosewood mantel clock. The pretty mercury gilt dial is just 7 cm square with fine engine turning and Roman numerals signed Viner, London. Blued steel hands.
The high quality eight day chain fusee movement with rare concealed front winding and semi deadbeat escapement, numbered 630 and signed on the backplate Viner & Co London.
The rosewood case with chamfer top, ripple mouldings and canted corners inset with brass.

Charles Edward Viner (1788-1879). A very fine watch, clock and chronometer maker. Apprenticed to Thomas Savage in 1802 he became a member of The Clockmakers Company in 1813 and was a Liveryman between 1819 and 1840. He traded from several London addresses, 233 Regent Street, 1 Royal Exchange and a retail outlet at 151 New Bond Street.
