Fine English carriage clock with original mercury gilding to the ormolu case, having lions heads at the base of the handle, four finials and standing on bun feet. The gilt engine turned dial with Roman numerals signed Payne London with typical delicate 'Payne' open heart blued steel hands.
Eight day chain and fusee movement with platform lever escapement, signed on the backplate Payne, 163 New Bond Street, London, and with slow/fast for regulation adjustment.
This style of case is associated with high quality French clockmakers, notably Breguet.
