Classic bracket clock with an elegant ebonised chamfer top case of lovely colour, finely decorated cast brass bezel and a convex glass. The 7 inch silvered and engraved dial with Roman hour numerals, strike silent lever above the XII, signed Payne 163 New Bond Street London with superb blued steel open heart shaped hands often used by this maker.
The eight day double fusee movement is of very high quality and strikes the hours on a bell, heavy pendulum bob with a steel rod and locking device. The ebonised case is untouched with ripple mouldings, glazed side windows, canted corners and block feet.
William Payne is listed at this New Bond Street address from c. 1826-1851, his clock are of very high quality, other examples can be seen on our website under bracket clocks, mantel clocks and carriage clocks.
